From my experience, communication with the store can tell you a lot. If a website gives a detailed guide for measurements, I feel more confident when ordering. I also think about how easy it is to track a parcel once it ships. I prefer simple designs that do not depend only on heavy filters in the pictures. Each material has advantages and disadvantages depending on season and activity.

Comfort around the heel and toes is more important than super fancy design. The same is true for metal versus acetate frames for glasses. Now I am more careful with impulse buys and limited time offers. For example, I compared cotton, polyester and mixed fabrics for similar clothing items. Otherwise they become clutter in the closet after the trend is over.
